New Music: Robert Babicz – Dark Flower (J. Voorn Remix)

Some fresh new music is out and I caught it! Almost in time… Robert Babicz has released a nice three track EP called Dark Flower on Audiomatique, a sublabel of Pokerflat. My favourite track of the EP is Joris Voorn’s remix of the track. The main reason for this is the really groovy bassline that the remix has. Robert Babicz’s personal site has some nice DJ sets up for streaming that are well worth listening to.

Old Music: Matthias Meyer – Reichenbach

Another great tune missed upon its release: Matthias Meyer’s Reichenbach. Released on the liebe*detail label together with Ndru’s strangely titled track, A Pony Named Clipklop, back in 2005. I first heard Reichenbach in James Holden’s DJ set at Doornroosje and was pretty excited to find out what it was called. Thanks, Google! Anyway, a pretty minimal track that starts with only a few basic sounds plus a short-delay transformed stab then has some sweepy synth sounds added halfway to really get it going. Slightly under a year ago some great music was released and I completely missed it (no surprise there). Synclair’s track “Synclair” was remixed by a few artists who did a wonderful job but one remix really works for me: Cylob’s (whose weblog can be found here). First heard in a DJ set by James Holden @ Tivoli de Helling, Utrecht, Netherlands and instantly recognized when finally finding out the track’s name. This is a melancholic/dreamy, synthy, bit Italo-ey, bit IDM dancefloor tune. Click the play icon to listen.

Long time techno artist Richard Bärtz gives us a new EP on the famous Cologne-based Kompakt Extra label, who prefer to number their releases rather than name them which isn’t a bad thing! This latest piece of work is number 61 in the series and is comprised of two tracks. Diamond Girl is a stabby, fragmented, minimalistic-but-funky floor filler (you will understand after listening). New music: Chris Lake & Sébastien Léger – Word / Ghost EP

Sébastien Léger and Chris Lake have released a two-track tech house EP named after its two tracks - “Word / Ghost” - on Rising Music. Word is a slightly pumping track that alternates a somewhat evil synth with disco-guitar-like elements. The real shiner of this EP, however is the other track; Ghost. Long time techno pioneer Sasha released a wonderful track just a few months ago that I have completely missed. It is this one-track EP called “Who Killed Sparky?” This tech house track just keeps on building, from a minimal track to an almost trancelike climax, and is a real feel good piece of music, especially when played loud. An artist unknown to me until today, Taras van de Voorde, has released a wonderful two-track techno EP on Stolen Moments entitled “Larize”. The EP consists of the original techno track, which is kind of moody but funky, and a great breakbeat/electro remix by Artificial Latvamaki, another name unknown to me until just now. New music: Mastermind / Dream Machine EP

Spirit Catcher & Compuphonic have released a nice two-tracker tech house EP on the 20:20 Vision label. The EP is simply titled “Mastermind / Dream Machine” after its two tracks. Neither of the tracks is overly original but both tracks have a wonderful untz to them and just work. Dream machine is slightly laidback and spacy tech house.
